Orlando to Cocoa Beach: how far it is and how to get there

Cocoa Beach is about 55 miles from Orlando on Route 528, roughly an hour without traffic. Here is how to get there, what to know about launch days and how to add Kennedy Space Center or Port Canaveral to the same trip.

How far is Cocoa Beach from Orlando?

About 55 miles from downtown Orlando, which is roughly an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes without traffic.

The route is State Road 528, the Beachline, which starts near Orlando airport and runs east to the coast. Beach-day exit traffic, summer weekends and launch days can stretch the trip a lot.

We run private transfers from Orlando or from the airport to Cocoa Beach in the Full-Size Black SUV. From Orlando airport (MCO) to Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral hotels the flat rate is $199 one way and $395 round trip, per vehicle. For other pickup points we quote a flat rate before you book, on WhatsApp, in English or Spanish.

Orlando airport to Cocoa Beach

Many visitors land at MCO and head straight for the coast, whether for a beach stay, a rocket launch or a cruise. The Beachline starts right next to the airport, so it is a direct run east. We can meet you at the terminal and drive you to your hotel in Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral.

Cape Canaveral and Port Canaveral are on the same road, about an hour from Orlando, so one pickup can cover a beach hotel and a cruise terminal. See our Disney cruise transportation guide for terminal and boarding details.

There are few direct options on this route. We leave out third-party prices because they change with demand and date.

The most requested destinations on the Space Coast

Cocoa Beach, the space center and the cruise port are very close to each other.

Cocoa Beach and the pier

The classic beach plan: surfing, the pier and restaurants by the ocean. Count on exit traffic on weekend afternoons.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

It is on Merritt Island, a little north of Cape Canaveral. Give it most of your day and check that day's opening hours on the official Kennedy Space Center website.

Port Canaveral

If your cruise leaves from here, read our Port Canaveral transportation guide for terminals, boarding times and luggage. The port also posts schedules at portcanaveral.com.

Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Village

Quiet areas for lunch or a stroll, a few minutes from the beach and the port.

Oceanfront hotels

If you stay in Cocoa Beach or Cape Canaveral, give us the hotel name and the pickup point when you book.

If you see a place that is not listed, ask. We quote any address on the coast.

What happens to traffic on rocket launch days

On launch days, the roads to the Space Coast and the beaches tend to fill up far more than usual.

Launches draw thousands of people to the Cocoa Beach, Titusville and space center area, and the drive back to Orlando can take longer than usual in the hours after. Launches can also change date or time on short notice, for weather or technical reasons.

If you plan to watch a launch, check the confirmed date and time on the Kennedy Space Center launch calendar, and book your transfer with room to spare. Tell us when you want to leave and we set up the return with a flexible time. If the date changes, message us and we adjust.

What to do between Orlando and Cocoa Beach

The road on 528 has few attractions, but there are useful stops if you take it easy.

Near the airport you can make a stop to buy sunscreen, water and food before the beach. If your plan is long, ask us whether you can add a short stop on the way: we include one short shopping stop of up to 20 minutes.

Closer to the coast, parts of Cocoa Village and Merritt Island work for lunch. It is also common to combine the beach in the morning and Kennedy Space Center in the afternoon, or the other way around, depending on heat and lines.

Black Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUV

Full-Size Black SUV

Chevrolet Suburban or comparable. Up to 6 guests and 6 standard-size suitcases. Best for families, larger parties and travelers with additional luggage.

Car seats, strollers and oversized luggage can reduce capacity. Not sure which fits? Message us before you book.

A beach day with the chauffeur on call? Book by the hour

If you would rather have the chauffeur with you all day, hourly service works well for the beach, the space center or both.

With the hourly chauffeur, the minimum is three hours and the hourly rate is in the table. For example, three hours cost in the Full-Size Black SUV. A full day leaving from and returning to Orlando normally takes more hours.

For a round trip to the coast, you can also ask for a flat rate on WhatsApp. If your trip includes Tampa or South Florida, see Orlando to Tampa and Miami to Orlando.

Hourly chauffeur rates

Hourly service has a three-hour minimum. It suits a beach day or a Kennedy Space Center day.

Count the hours from when the chauffeur picks you up until they drop you off again.
